It is up to each individual member of a Freecycle.org group when arranging for pickup of the item being given away to be appropriately aware of the potential risk of having "a stranger" come to your home to pick something up. The Freecycle Network and member groups, as listservs, assume no responsibility for this risk.

It's wise to arrange for a drop-off at a public place (shopping area, library, etc.); or if you do give a member your address, to leave the item on the porch without mentioning whether or not you'll be home. If you, for example, are a single woman living alone, you may want to meet downtown during the day to exchange the item, or have somebody with you at home, so it doesn't appear that you live alone.
