ADMIN Notices - To Post or Not to Post... That is the Question ***Edit/Remove all references to (International) guidelines as necessary***
Take Maxim through this questionnaire and you will get a yes. Take storage locker space through it and you will get a no, as it's not a tangible object. Take cigarettes through it and that will also render a no. This makes it quite easy to pick any item and run it through a series of questions that will give you a definitive answer on whether or not it meets guidelines according to Freecycle (International) criteria. Here's one way to think about it (if this works for you): 1)
Is it tangible? Can you hold it in your hands and/or touch it? 2)
Is there a legal age restriction by law to purchase? (i.e.: alcohol, you must
be XX years old) 3)
Can the item be purchased without a prescription? 4)
Can the item be obtained or used without a license? 5)
Is it something that basically anyone can walk into a store and purchase or
acquire? 6)
Is it something you can only get through illegal means or via the black market?
Is it considered illegal to own or obtain it? If it falls under allowed, then regardless of personal feelings on the issue it involves, it ought to be allowed. If it falls under no, i.e.: it's not tangible, then regardless of personal feelings on the matter, it is not for a Freecycle board. If this starts to happen a lot, then consider a Cafe as a viable option where people can post these service needs. We are not the police, but we are moderators upholding the guidelines set forth by Freecycle. We enforce the boards only so far as to make sure the things changing hands are legal and age appropriate. You can have your feelings on whether or not things ought to be allowed to be posted - just don't be driven by them. Follow the Freecycle (International) guidelines and you can't go wrong - that's really the simple way to do it, as it takes out the need to judge items. Then you can get back to just keeping things out of the landfills. Your
