Custom Graphic/Logo Instructions
Easy steps to getting your own Freecycle
Graphic made for your group
- Contact graphics@freecycle.org
- Provide us with your group web address and
information about your area
(names of parks, statues, buildings, anything
that your town/area is known for
or that you would like to see represented on your
image)
Or... details about what you would like your image
to look like - if you'd rather
not have an image of your area.
Please be aware that we can only use non-copyrighted
images we find on the
web - so we may have to ask you to take photos or
accept something different if images aren't
available.
We try and offer you several images to choose from,
if we can, but as volunteers with groups of our own
we do not have unlimited time so please be patient and
realistic with what you ask for.
examples of graphics created for specific groups can be found here
(if you come to an empty folder - no pictures, check out the left menu for sub-folders) :-

- http://photobucket.com/albums/y183/freecyclelogos/
- We add your request to our database and when a designer is free they will contact you.
Please make sure your reply within one week - if we don't hear your request drops to the
bottom of our list.
If for some reason you wish to delay or stop the production of the image - please let us know asap.
To upload images to your homepage please follow the instructions in 1. Normal Image - below
Please note - you only require one freecycle logo on your page, so if you have an image
with the logo on it you should remove any other freecycle logo.
Get your generic images complete with logos here each month

We have two types of images at the photobucket sites above
- Normal Image
These are the ones you will find in the January to December Folders
To use these you click on the image you want which takes you to a larger version.
Right click on the image and choose Save As from the drop down menu.
Save it to somewhere on your computer that you will easily find ( ie your desktop)
Go to your homepage and click on the Add Photo link (beside the word description which is next to
your Group description)
On the next page scroll to the bottom of the page and click browse - find the image you downloaded
Click Add Photo
That's it!
- Auto updating Image
If you dislike changing your image each month (or whenever) this may be the method for you.
These images change automatically each month when the Graphics Team add new images to
the site (normally at the end of each month)
You have to LINK to these images to make the feature work.
To do this:
Go to the auto update folder of the photobucket site (addresses above) - and choose which image type you want.
At present we offer you the choice of 5 series with either a copyright or non copyright version of each.
(see below)
- so if you choose the animated image with copyright although your image will be different each
month - it will always be animated and always have the copyright statement.
animated series:
animated image & logo
animated image & logo & copyright
door series:
door image & logo
door image & logo plus the copyright statement
recycle series:
image & logo with recycle symbol
image & logo with recycle symbol & copyright statement
Earth series:
image & logo with earth
image & logo with earth & copyright statement
no symbol series:
image & logo (no other symbols)
image & logo (no other symbols) & copyright
When you have decided which type you want
Click on the html tag underneath that particular image ( you will see a 'copied' message)
Go to your homepage and click on the Edit link (beside the word description which is next to
your Group description)
On the next page again click Edit
The next page will be the editable version of your homepage description.
Place your cursor at the very beginning of your description (before the first letter of it)
Right click and choose paste from the drop down menu.
You will get a very long link like this
<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff201/FreecycleTM_2008_graphics/0%
20-%20auto%20update%20images/?action=view¤t=fc_animated_txt.gif" target="_blank">
<img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff201/FreecycleTM_2008_graphics/0%20-%
20auto%20update%20images/fc_animated_txt.gif" border="0" alt="animated & copyright"></a>
add <br> right after the </a> to keep your text clear of the image.
Now choose Save
If you have a very long homepage description you may find you run out of characters.
In this case you may need to use an image version of some of your homepage description such as the copyright
statement - we can help you with that.
Problems?
If you have any - get in touch with graphics@freecycle.org - we will help :-)
Create your own Freecycle™ Graphic for your group
Hi, yes it is acceptable to make your own home page graphic using the Freecycle logo. There are rules that
relate to it though (when aren't there! lol!) so please just write to the graphics team and we will send you the
basic rules and the correct graphics.
Let us know what image programme you use and what format you use and we can send you the right graphics.
When you have made your graphic please pass it by us first - we often pick up small mistakes before the
images are uploaded and in truth we like seeing them! We may even ask you to try out for the graphics team!
Thank you,
The Freecycle™ Logo Team
