If a group decides eventually for any reason not to move to the new site will that group be removed from the new site? Whether or not a local group chooses to move to the new site is the local moderator's decision. If the group is moved, posting will take place directly on the new site at the local subsite URL like springfield.freecycle.org (this URL does not exist yet, but is merely an example). If they choose to remain a Yahoo Group, then the new site will link up to the Yahoo! Group instead. Both options are fine. The goal is to create a nonprofit venue which better meets Freecycle / local group needs. If you feel it doesn't, then stay with Yahoo Groups. Both options are fine. If someone is about to start a new group, should they go ahead and use Yahoo! or wait for the new site? Go ahead and start with Yahoo!, will probably be a couple of months before groups will be able to choose to move to the new site or not. When can groups move over to the new site? When can users start using it? The plan is to go live to the entire world around the start of June, but that's not a definite. Groups will be able to *move* to the new site starting likely in August. This is up to the local group moderator to decide. However, the phase which enables groups to be hosted directly on freecycle.org won't be available before August, most likely. |
