How much in weight/volume does Freecycle save the planet ?
We are keeping (aproximately) 300 tonnes of rubbish entering our landfills worldwide - each and every day.
Please see our Media release - 1st May 2007 (PDF).
Does Freecycle or Yahoogroups cost ? Is there a fee ?
There are no fees or charges at all, to use Yahoogroups, or Freecycle.
How can I remove / add Yahoogroup calendar events from my own personal Yahoo calendar ?
Go your Yahoo Calendar
Click on CALENDAR OPTIONS at top right
Click on TIME GUIDES in the EVENTS column
DESELECT the groups you DO NOT WANT on YOUR calendar.
(They are checked by default when you join any group.)
How old do you have to be to join Freecycle?
There really is no age requirement but it is best to have an adult with you.
There is no trading, just offering something you no longer want or requesting something that you
need. In either case you have to come face to face with strangers and for safety sake, it is
best if there is an adult around with you.
I applied for a Freecycle membership a few weeks ago. I have not heard a reply.
There may be a requirement or short survey that needs to be replied to, in order to join.
- Check your in-box, spam, or trash folders for any email's that arrived shortly after
you applied to join the group.
Some groups require you answer a few questions before your application to join has been approved.
If you joined online, via the website - Please check your email account, as this may be a
reason for the delay.
- If you applied via email, then Yahoogroups would have sent you an email to confirm
you wish to join the group.
Please reply to this. (there is no requirement / need to change the text / message.)
- If neither of the above situations apply in your case, please contact the
group owner / moderators of the group you wish to join.
Their email address is listed on the bottom of the Yahoogroups home.page.
EXAMPLE FORMAT :- Replace SampleFreecycle with the name of your Freecycle/Yahoogroups group.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SampleFreecycle/
Replacing SampleFreecycle with your group name, the email address will be
SampleFreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com
Why do some groups have to approve new members?
Some Groups have taken the decision to approve all new members to the
Group. This can delay an application, but is done for several (very
good) reasons:
- known spammers can be rejected
- automatic signups can be rejected (stops email address harvesting)
- people can be directed to a Group that's more local to them
If you receive an email from the Group moderators asking for more
information (or just to confirm you're actually a person and not an automated computer program!)
then please follow their instructions - they're not being difficult,
they're just protecting the list members (of which you will soon
hopefully be one!)
